REAL MVMT COACHES SUMMIT PRESENTERS PART 2 - Transition From Elite Athlete to Elite Coach

One of the biggest challenges an Athlete can face is the transition to the next phase of life.

Do I coach because I genuinely think I can make an impact?

Or do I learn a new trade and get started on an alternate voyage?

These guys have made the transition from elite athletes to coaches in recent times.

Brent Livermore - Head Coach NSW Pride + NSWIS Field Hockey

I didn’t know Brent until I gave him a call the other day.

What I did know was the respect that Keegan had for him. I remember Keeg always talking about how he wanted to take on his ethic and attitude towards the game. Brent was a mentor. He had a major impact on Keegan.I hope I am remembering correctly but I believe Brent had the keys for the gate at the hockey field. That way you can train as much as you need to.  I saw that in my brother.

As a coach Brent is getting our future olympic players ready. Developing the next batch and also Head Coach of the NSW Pride.

When discussing the topic for the presentation, I wish I had recorded our chat.  Within minutes I was asking about strategy and philosophy, listening to a man that had represented Australia 300+ times get fully immersed into coaching banter! Time well spent!

Brent will challenge you to think about how your team is put together. How your roles are defined. How the game is played.

Innovate to create.

RMVT Coaches summit Haydn Wolfsbauer.jpg

Hadyn Wolfsbauer - Crossfit Coach and Rigger (NZ America’s Cup)

Weapon for work. Haydn has been a Professional Rugby player and Regionals Crossfit Athlete.

Now transitioning to become a Rigger. Hard work with an appetite to push the limits is a daily occurence.

The transition from Athlete to Coach, while still being an athlete is a challenging one. When to be coached, when to be the coach. Not an easy task. Many of us coaches don’t love to be coached.

Haydn has also worked with elite Junior Rugby League players, including some prolific NRL careers. Getting the key movement skills down early on is a key part of Haydn’s philosophy for developing athletes.

With a broad range of athletic experiences and a passion for coaching, Haydn is well positioned for a career of coaching!

RMVT Coaches summit Chev Walker + Greg Bird.jpg

Greg Bird (Catalan Dragons Academy Coach) & Chev Walker (Leeds Rhinos Academy Coach)-

These two lads have had differing journeys to the Professional Coaching ranks., on opposite sides of the world.

Greg was an international and NSW State of Origin player in Australia’s NRL.

Chev played for a dominant Leeds Rhinos and also Great Britain.

However, there are plenty of similarities.

Greg debuted at 18, Chev at 16.

Both played over 300+ Professional Games.

Both overcame significant personal incidents along the way.

Both LOVE the game.

Both LOVE the Team.

Looking forward to discussing the challenges and opportunities of transitioning from player to Coach.
